

ABOUT
The Niu Oceania Cultural Centre’s primary aim is to teach, disseminate, preserve and enable students to learn the languages, arts, cultures and values of Oceania. The Centre provides basic introductory adult language classes in Samoan, Tonga, Fijian and Tok-Pisin. These classes are useful for those who have no or little knowledge of the language- and it hopes to encourage Pacific and non-Pacific Islanders willing to learn a new language. Furthermore, the classes offers a unique ‘talanoa’ learning and sharing sessions in the first hour- that focusses on particular themes and issues. These may in the form a class presentation, to workshop and community panels around themes such as: Pacific community in Canberra, cultural values, social work, health, education and even business entrepreneurship. The Niu Oceania Cultural Centre classes take place at the Australian National University’s Coombs Extension building on Thursday’s from 6-8pm.
